What is Yoga?

Sage Patanjali has written the ancient Indian heritage of Yoga through his treatise 'Yoga Sutras', which is an encompassing study of the subject which consists of 196 sutras(aphorisms). The total 196 Sutras are divided in 4 chapters.

Patanjali, defines yoga as "chitta vritti nirodha". Chitta is the consciousness which includes the mind, the intellect and the ego. Yoga is a method of silencing the vibrations(vritti) of the chitta.

The eight aspects (astanga) of yoga are :

  1. Yama (Principles)
  2. Niyama (Personal Disciplines)
  3. Asana (Yoga Positions or Yogic Postures)
  4. Pranayama (Yogic Breathing)
  5. Pratyahara (Withdrawal of Senses)
  6. Dharana (Concentration on Object)
  7. Dhyana (Meditation)
  8. Samadhi (Salvation)

Benefits of Yoga

The word yoga also means 'integration', it basically integrates the body, mind and emotions.

Regular practice of asanas, pranayama and meditation can help such diverse ailments such as diabetes, blood pressure, digestive disorders, arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, asthma, varicose veins and heart conditions.

Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness, increases body awareness, relieves chronic stress patterns, relaxes the mind, centers attention and sharpens concentration.

Yoga är ett perfekt redskap för den moderna människan att balansera stress och spänningar och därmed kunna hantera sitt vardagsliv på ett konstruktivt sätt.
Syftet med yoga är att på ett mycket enkelt sätt ge högre livskvalitet så livet kan bli en glädjyttering i nuet i stället för en kamp med olika problem.

Jag inbjuder dig att använda yoga som en väg till ökad inre och yttre harmoni.
Mina yoga-pass kan utövas av alla utifrån sina egna förutsättningar och jag tar stor hänsyn till individens behov. Formen är baserad på Iyengar-yoga och Satyananda-yoga.
